Carrying Forth the Great Commission

Press Release from Dr. Frank Page - President of the Southern Baptist Convention.

"My predecessor, Dr. Bobby Welch, constantly reminded Southern Baptists of the need to be winning souls to Christ. One would think that one would not have to be reminded of something as important as that. However, I know and you know that we constantly need that reminder and need to encourage one another in the ministry of soul winning. One of the great blessings of being president of the Southern Baptist Convention is to be able to travel a great deal and share Christ with an amazing number of people across the nation, as well as the world. I appreciate churches that are diligently seeking to share the Good News of Christ in traditional as well as in non-traditional ways. If we are going to connect with our culture today, we have to continue to seek every possible avenue through which we can share the gospel.

One of the ways that our church has been able to touch our community for Christ is through Good News Clubs that meet in schools after hours. Currently, we sponsor two Good News Clubs and one of our church plants sponsors yet another. This ministry has been a great way to share the good news with children, some of whom never darken the doors of any church.

Recently, a young girl in our community prayed to receive Christ as her Lord and Savior. Prior to that, she said, 'No one had ever told me about Jesus, and that there was someone who died to take away my sins.' In an area like Greenville, which is so saturated with churches, one would think that one would never hear that statement.  The truth is that there are people all around our world who are ready to hear the Gospel, but on one has yet told them.

We partner with a great ministry called Child Evangelism Fellowship® who helps train our workers and give them wonder material with which to work. I rarely use this venue to promote other ministries other than our Southern Baptist ministries. However, on this occasion, I delightfully commend to you the ministry of Child Evangelism Fellowship. They are great partners in sharing the good news with precious children.

Whatever method you use, I encourage you to be involved in sharing the Good News of Christ with people. People will listen and respond to the Good News, even in the twenty first century! As a preacher of yesteryear said when talking with someone who was condemning his methods, "I like what I do better then what you don't." Let us make sure that we are doing something to share the Good News of Christ in such a way that honors His name and shares the good news clearly and powerfully with our lost world."
