On Thursday night August 27, 2009 the Palmetto
Chapter of CEF-SC held our first annual Flip Flop Fundraiser at the Dorchester Boat Club on the banks of the Ashley River
just outside of Fort Dorchester State park in Summerville. It was truly a night
of the LORD’s blessings.
Our board chairman, Dan Chritton, welcomed everyone
to the event. Irene Smith and her sister, Lydia, provided the evening’s
musical entertainment while we feasted on Gilligan’s Low Country Boil and Cole Slaw.
The refreshments were provided by Mr. K’s Piggly Wiggly. Mr. K also
provided cake for dessert.
Our district coordinator, Shannon Staples, gave
a ministry update of where we started five years ago and the fact that we are currently in 4 schools in the Summerville area
but that there are 80 elementary schools in the tri-county (Dorchester, Berkeley, and Charleston) area and our goal is to
have a club in every one. Shannon also shared with us the fact that three churches
in downtown Charleston have adopted Sanders Clyde Elementary school and will start this October. Our LORD is AWESOME!
For the climax of the evening Foster Smith, our
keynote speaker for the evening, reminded us that the LORD uses us to gather in the harvest that He has cultivated. He used the analogy of a corn crop. The field is sown, watered,
and fertilized the exact same yet you have healthy normal ears of corn next to withered ears.
We have to follow the calling that the Holy Spirit puts in our heart to tell all these children about the wonderful
plan that God has for each of us that can only be fulfilled by faith in Jesus Christ and the sacrifice he made for each of
us.
We the members of the board of the Palmetto District
would like to thank each and every one of you who participated in every aspect of this event.
We know this is the LORD’s work and not ours, but He does call us to be His hands and feet, which means we cannot
just sit by and watch. In closing we wanted to remind you of our theme verse
Romans 10:15a “Beautiful are the feet…” and that you are those feet.
